Chaya Skates Buyers Guide

Chaya Skates are a registered brand of POWERSLIDE, a leading inline skate brand that we stock in store. POWERSLIDE produces some amazing skates and components for their inline skates so we are happy to see that they are also using what they learned from inline skating to make good quality quad skates too.

The owner of POWERSLIDE, Matthias Knoll, grew up as a quad speed skater, so we can imagine that a lot of love goes into their roller skates just as much as their inline skates. Due to the company incorporating technologies from what they have learned producing inline skates, they have managed to create skates that can handle the skatepark, dance, roller derby and more.

You may be wondering:

  • What is the difference between the Chaya Melrose Elite and the Melrose Deluxe?
  • What Chaya skate should I buy for which type of Roller skating?
  • Do Chaya skates fit wide or narrow?

In store we try to cover as much of the Chaya range as possible. We have Chaya skates for beginners and budget options for those who need it, advanced skates with stronger and adjustable parts, skatepark, dance and derby options. Let’s take you through some of our favourite Chaya skates that we stock.

How do Chaya Skates Fit?
Chaya Skates are super padded. Straight away when you touch the skates you can see that they will be really comfortable. They are very accommodating for wider feet as well so if you have been struggling to find a good quality skate that comes with a wider fit then maybe Chaya is the brand for you. For Chaya Skates we would advise you to choose your normal shoe size and expect them to feel ever slightly too small when you first try them on brand new.

The Chaya Melrose Deluxe

First up we have the Chaya Melrose Deluxe with the standard fixed toe stops. At Slicks we have the Cobalt and Amber colours which look fantastic. The boot itself is extremely padded with most customers being really impressed by how comfortable they are straight out of the box compared to other skates they have tried before. The skates come with vegan friendly materials, an aluminium plate underneath for durability, Wicked ABEC 7 bearings and 62mm by 38mm Sugar Rush City Cruising wheels at 78A. These skates would be perfect for beginners or anyone looking for a more affordable skate to go and skate in the park or on the city streets.

The Chaya Melrose Deluxe (with adjustable toe stops)

Next we have the Chaya Melrose Deluxe Ruby, Latte and Starry Night skates. These skates are almost identical to the previous Amber and Cobalt version except that the plate features an adjustable toe stop instead of the fixed stump. The adjustable toe stop can give you the freedom of deciding how high you would like your heel to raise when using the toe stops.

The Chaya Classic Dance

Moving away from the Melrose for a moment, we have the Chaya Classic Dance. As you can imagine from the name, these skates are perfect for dance/jam skating. The adjustable toe stop can help you alter the height of your heel when balancing on your toe or it can be removed and replaced with a jam plug. These skates were very popular due to the all black colourway and because they come in larger sizes all the way up to size 11UK. The skate features a vegan boot, a plastic plate to keep things light, Wicked ABEC 7 bearings and 62mm by 38mm Octo Paseo wheels at 78A.

The Chaya Melrose Elite

The Melrose returns with the Elite version of the skates. The Elite comes in a few different colours and materials. We have holographic, vegan leather and a vegan suede material in multiple colours. The Chaya Melrose Elite features a glass fibre reinforced plastic plate to keep things strong but lightweight alongside an adjustable toe stop. We also have an upgrade to ABEC 9 Wicked’s on these skates with Chaya Cloud 9’s 62mm by 38mm at 78A Wheels to get you rolling round the city streets at pace. These skates would be great for those looking for a higher quality skate that is more durable than the standard Melrose options.

The Chaya Jump and Chaya Kismet Barbiepatin

For those who are looking to do tricks and go to the skatepark Chaya have some nice options for you. In store we stock the Chaya Jump and the Kismet Barbie Patin pro skates. The main difference between the two is that the Barbie Patin skates will feature a grind block that is attached to the plate to allow for grinds and other skatepark tricks. The next main difference would be the 45 degree strap that comes with the Jump. This will keep your heel firmly on the floor of the skate making your jumps more responsive. Both skates come with a glass fibre reinforced plastic plate to help keep them strong but lightweight. The Jump comes with some Wicked ABEC 9 bearings whereas the Barbie is fitted with Wicked ABEC 7s. Both are strong enough to handle high impact landings.

The wheels are slightly different as well. On the Jump we have some soft Chaya Sugar Rush wheels which are 62mm by 38mm at 78A. These are perfect for performing jumps in an urban environment. The Barbie’s come with some 56mm by 32mm hard wheels at 101A which are perfect for skatepark grinds. The hard wheel allows you to get speed on smooth concrete and it also allows you to slide along some surfaces without sticking during a grind trick.

The Chaya Chameleon

Besides the Dance, Chaya has another nice option for dance/jam skating. We have the Chaya Chameleon in a High or Low cut option. The high cut version offers more support with an extra velcro strap at the top whereas the low cut will offer more manoeuvrability. This skate features an aluminium plate to keep things strong and durable with some aluminium cast trucks to mount the wheels on. The wheels are Chaya Drift 59mm by 38mm wheels at 95A and Abec 9 wicked bearings. A great set up for smooth surfaces. It also comes with different coloured straps in the box too so you can customise the skate to your choosing. These are part of a "flap'n'strap" system that allows you to change the straps instantly without removing any screws. Some jam plugs are also fitted on the skate straight out of the box to get you disco ready.
