Primitive Skateboard originally started as a skate and clothing store in Encino, California and was founded by Paul Rodriguez, Heath Brinkley, Andy Netkin, Jay Partow and Jubal Jones in 2008.
Paul Rodriguez (if you don’t know who he is, check him out), while sponsored by Plan B Skateboards, decided he wanted complete control over his career and left the team in 2013 to pursue other opportunities. Shortly after, Paul printed and sold a limited run of 500 gold-foil “Gold Eagle” pro model Primitive decks which sold out instantly. Based on this success he decided to take Primitive one step further and turn it into a skate team and brand in it’s own right.
Just 10 months after Paul Rodriguez's departure from Plan B, Primitive Skateboarding was born and officially announced on April 10, 2014. The original team consisted of Paul as pro, and with Carlos Ribeiro and Nick Tucker as amateurs.
The company has grown into a premium quality brand, expanding it’s product lines and it’s team, with a firm commitment to quality products, good business practices and fair treatment for it’s riders by rewarding riders with higher shares of the royalties, in an industry which usually does the reverse.
Primitive have pushed out collaborations featuring rappers like Tupac Shakur and Notorious B.I.G. as well as anime franchises such as Dragon Ball Z, Rick and Morty, Naruto, Sailor Moon and even Marvel Comics.
We love Primitive Skateboards at the store and can’t recommend them enough. You can check out their boards and completes here.
